Policies, Security, and Netiquette

The third day of our lesson on Media and Information Literacy had no homework nor an activity. Mr. Rodel Opiana intensively discussed the Edmodo Policies and Proper Online Behavior.
I had no trouble understanding the Edmodo Policies since I reviewed them before. Back when I was in eighth grade, our student-teacher told us to sign-up for an Edmodo account and there I learned how to use the site and its policies as well.

My patience on reading the “Terms and Agreement” does not exist, but Mr. Opiana emphasized the significance of reading them.
My knowledge of the do’s and don’ts in the online world was expanded. I learned that I must secure my passwords because if they get hacked, it will affect my social life greatly.

Moreover, one of the points I absorbed in the discussion is that, in using media, not only my interests must be taken into consideration, but also others’ as well. Every click I make may be from personal intentions, but the effect on others may vary.
I learned that I must ask for others’ permission when I post a photo with them included. Instructions when someone is harassing me online were provided by the teacher too.
The lesson also reminded us that bullying online has the same impact as it was done in person, that’s why I must respect others online the way I would do in person or face-to-face.

Information Literacy (Laboratory)

Knowledge paved the way for the evolution of society. Information becomes knowledge in what way? Information is objective while knowledge is subjective. When a person is able to absorb, retain, and apply the information he received, that information becomes knowledge. This relationship could be compared to a raw agricultural product, which represents information, being processed into preserved food, which represents knowledge. The topic about Importance of Giving Credit was discussed and here are my opinions on it. Giving credit is a personal responsibility carried by everyone. It comes along with the privilege of creating something to call as your own. With privilege, comes responsibility. Giving credit is simply treating others the way you want to be treated. I guess no one w...
